SATURDAY 15th JULY
The Redeemer’s Feast (Festa del Redentore in Italian) is one of the most pictoreque and traditional feasts in the region of Veneto. Its history dates back to 1577 to celebrate the end of a massive plague outbreak, celebrated with the built of the stunning church of the same name on the Giudecca Island.
Today its religious and cultural origins are melt into a unique event featuring the celebration of the Holy Mass followed by fireworks, well-known in the whole Italy, boat parades and Venetian-style abundant dinners waiting for the pyrotechnic show to begin.
The event takes place in Venice, the capital of the Veneto region and is visible from many locations in the city. Hotels and restaurants organise special dinners to ensure that guests can admire the pyrotechnic shows; reservations must be done in advance as the seats are limited, while the fireworks on the city squares are free.
